Brittany Burcham, 35, from Birmingham, Alabama, became a certified emergency foster parent in October 2019, and has fostered around 50 kids since then. Though she s licensed to foster up to age 21, most kids she takes care of are 10 to 17. It was one of her teen fosters that pushed her to create her TikTok account, fostertheteens, last April in order to talk about what it s like to foster a teenager.

New Coalition Plans To Expand, Improve Foster Care Services In Indiana

Credit Courtesy of FosterTogetherIndiana.org A new coalition plans to expand and improve foster care services in the state. It launched a pilot program in Lake County to increase equitable recruitment of foster parents and support for foster families. The program is called Foster Together Indiana and aims to provide homes to children in need through the Lake County foster family recruitment and retention coalition. According to the Indiana Department of Child Services, there are around 30,000 children in foster care in Indiana.  Foster Together Indiana founder Takkeem Morgan said the idea is to have a collective approach to recruit and retain foster parents.
