Court Rules In Favor Of Coal-To-Diesel Plant In Air Permit Challenge

Credit (Southwestern Indiana Citizens for Quality of Life/Facebook) A proposed plant that would turn coal into diesel fuel in southwest Indiana has overcome a legal challenge to its air permit. Activists filed a petition to appeal Riverview Energy’s permit saying that the Indiana Department of Environmental Management likely underestimated emissions from the plant. But the state Office of Environmental Adjudication disagreed and said the agency had enough information to make its decision. The plant is expected to invest $2.5 billion in the state. In a press release, Riverview Energy’s president called the ruling a “victory for Spencer County, Indiana, and the region.”

City Of Bloomington Utilities Issues Precautionary Boil Water Advisory – WBIW

December 22, 2020 (BLOOMINGTON) – On Tuesday, December 22, City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) crews were called for an emergency repair on a water main on East Allendale Drive, near South Tudor Lane. Water service was shut off for 129 addresses; those customers are now under a precautionary Boil Water Advisory. Unless otherwise notified, the precautionary Boil Water Advisory will be lifted at noon Wednesday, December 23.  The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) requires all public water systems to issue a Boil Water Advisory when the pressure drops below 20 psi in the water main. Those affected should follow the instructions below:            Immediately after your normal water pressure is restored, run COLD water from a sink or tub until clear water flows from the faucet.

BZA stands against proposed fill site

BZA stands against proposed fill site 12/21/20 9:33 AM The Seymour Board of Zoning Appeals has upheld a decision by the city plan commission to deny a land use variance to a local business to operate a clean fill site just north of city limits. BZA members voted 4-0 against BP2 Construction’s request during a mostly virtual meeting last week. Board President John Richey abstained from the vote. Jason Smith, attorney for BP2, spoke on behalf of the company. He said the 14-acre property in the 2300 block of North State Road 11 isn’t suited for any commercial business “as is.” The land sits too low and would need to be built up, and there are no utilities currently available to the property, he said.
