(Indianapolis, Ind.) - One southeastern Indiana county matched the state s unemployment rate in March.
According to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Ripley County had a jobless rate of 3.9 percent last month, matching the state s unemployment rate.
Ripley County saw their unemployment rate dip slightly from 4.0 percent in February.
Franklin and Ohio counties both reported an unemployment rate of 4.1 percent last month. Dearborn County followed at 4.5 percent, and Switzerland County s jobless rate was unchanged at 5.1 percent.

WASHINGTON, DC â The U.S. Department of Labor announced this week that the Indiana Department of Workforce Development is getting $100,000 in grants to expand Indianaâs fidelity bonding programs, which support employers that hire workers considered âat-riskâ due to prior involvement in the criminal justice system, as well as those in recovery for substance abuse. These workers often face barriers in their attempts to return to the workforce.
The U.S. Dept. of Labor issued a total of $725,000 in Fidelity Bonding Demonstration Grants to seven states and the District of Columbia.
Created by the department in 1966 and administered by its Employment and Training Administration, the Federal Bonding Program allows states to issue free-of-charge fidelity bonds to employers. The program provides employers with a bond of no less than $5,000 for each eligible new hire, and allows issuance of up to $25,000 in bonds for each individual, as incentives for employers to hire th

VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) Thanks to a Duke Energy grant giving $1,000 to 50 students in Indiana s Next Level Jobs program, 50 Vincennes University trade program students won t have to worry about a portion of their funding for the spring semester.
David Pierce and Shawn McLaughlin are both students in VU s welding technologies program. They said the guarantee of having a job in a field they like is what made them choose this route vs. a traditional four-year program.
McLaughlin began welding while in high school and realized it was something he was good at. Two factors influenced his decision to enroll in VU s welding technology program: time and money.
