INDIANAPOLIS — Federal aid is on its way to Americans after President Donald Trump signed a coronavirus relief bill into law Sunday night. The $900 billion stimulus package is the first significant effort in nine months to get financial aid to the people and institutions most affected by the ongoing pandemic. Congress passed the bill early last week, but the president delayed signing it after criticizing what he called low stimulus payments to Americans and wasteful spending on other programs. The federal government last made COVID-19 help available when it passed the $2.2 trillion Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security, or CARES, Act in late March. At that time, most individual adults received $1,200 stimulus checks and $500 per dependent child younger than 17.

State jobless rate inches down in November By KEVIN NEVERS The state’s jobless rate in November dropped to 5.0 percent, from 5.5 percent in October (3.2 percent in November 2019), the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) is reporting. Indiana’s labor force saw a net decrease in November of 40,274 from October. “This was a result of a decrease of 17,345 unemployed residents and a decrease of 22,929 employed Hoosiers,” DWD said. “Indiana’s total labor force, which includes both Hoosiers employed and those seeking employment, stands at 3.33 million, and the state’s 62.9 million percent labor-force participation rate remains above the national rate of 61.5 percent.”
