An external investigation into the COVID-19-related death of a Black woman doctor found that the medical care she received at an Indiana University Health hospital did not contribute to her untimely death.
However, the review by a panel of six outside experts four of whom are Black did conclude that the patient Dr. Susan Moore suffered from a lack of cultural competence on the part of those treating her at IU Health North in Carmel, according to an IU Health statement released Wednesday.
Moore’s case rose to national prominence after she posted a Facebook video that went viral in which she said that racial bias led to her health-care providers ignoring her pain and failing to treat her appropriately.
