New Delhi, May 2 : Boxing Federation of India (BFI) high performance director Santiago Nieva s proposal to shift the national camp to Italy to prepare the men and women s teams for this month s Asian Boxing Championships has not been cleared by BFI executive board, said a top official on Sunday. During a BFI executive board online meeting last Friday, the expert from Sweden had proposed to hold a camp in Italy. But it wasn t approved as we think it is better to stay in India and train, the BFI official, who was present in the meeting, told IANS.

New Delhi, April 30 : National champion and Olympic-bound boxer Simranjit Kaur has been dropped from the Indian squad for the Asian Boxing Championships to be held in Dubai from May 21 as she is still recovering from Covid-19.
The 25-year-old national champion in the 60 kg had tested positive for Covid-19 last week. Since she is still in quarantine here at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Sports Complex, it wouldn t be possible for her to compete in the continental competition. We will check if the second boxer in her category (60kg) is fit for competition, an official of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) told IANS.

New Delhi, April 26 : The extension of lockdown in Delhi till May 3 and a surge in Covid-19 cases have put next month s Asian Boxing Championships in doubt.
The event, to be held here at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Sports Complex, is scheduled to begin on May 21 but with rising cases, there are concerns. The elite men and women s boxing tournament is scheduled to start from May 21, but the prevailing situation is so scary that participating countries wouldn t like to travel to New Delhi, which is one of the hotspots for coronavirus in India, a Boxing Federation of India (BFI) official told IANS.

New Delhi, April 25 : Olympic-bound boxer Simranjit Kaur could miss training for a fortnight or more as she has tested positive for Covid-19, said a coach associated with the elite women s national camp.
Punjab s Simranjit, 25, had qualified in the women s 60 kg category in March last year. She is in isolation for the past four days here at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Sports Complex, the coach told IANS.
This month, several elite women boxers and members of the coaching staff attending national camp at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex had tested positive for coronavirus. Almost all of them have recovered, said the coach.
