SHIMLA: Congress veteran and former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh passed away at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital Shimla in the wee hours of Thursday. He was 87.
“Singh died at around 4am. After cardiopulmonary arrest, he was declared dead,” Dr Janak Raj Pakhretia of the hospital said.
The former chief minister was admitted to the hospital on April 30 after recovering from Covid-19. For the last two days, he was on ventilator support after his health deteriorated.
Pakhretia said that after embalming the body would be handed over to family members.

He suffered from heart attack on Monday and was critical. He was in the critical care unit of IGMC. Virbhadra was put on ventilator under the supervision of the doctors of the cardiology department on Wednesday after he had breathing problem, he added. The nine-time MLA and five-time MP, Singh served as Himachal Pradesh s chief minister for six times.

Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Virbhadra Singh passed away in Shimla in the early hours of Thursday (July 8) after battling a prolonged illness at the age of 87.
The leader breathed his last at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) here at 3.40 am. On Monday night, the condition of the Congress leader deteriorated after he suffered a cardiac arrest. Singh was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital and was on ventilator support. He was admitted there on April 23. He had tested positive for COVID-19 on June 11 for the second time in two months.
