Indonesia has constructed a tank that s also a boat, and it s called a Tank Boat.
It s just as its name suggests – a vehicle with a mounted tank gun that can travel across water, and it s a concept that probably makes a lot of sense but has never really seen anything remotely close to mainstream popularity.
But after years of development, the new Antasena Tank Boat has now begun offshore trials off the coast of Banyuwangi, East Java, just opposite of the island of Bali, and will look likely to become a new staple of the country s defense system that is responsible for defending thousands of individuals islands.

Boat Manufacturer PT Lundin first revealed the Fire Support Vessel (FSV) design at the 2014 Indodefence exhibition in Jakarta. The project took form over the years in what today is called X18 or the Tank Boat. After years of development, the Indonesian Ministry of Defense purchased the vessel and launched the X18 Combat Boat program.
Indonesia is developing a unique boat for so-called “brown water” warfare.
The “tank boat” is designed to carry more than 50 troops and the firepower of a tank.
The tank boat will be used to defend the Indonesian archipelago from external threats and pirates.
Is it a tank that floats like a boat, or a boat that shoots like a tank? Indonesia’s new Antasena Tank Boat just might be both.

The long-promised hybrid vehicle is capable of patrolling 600 miles on a single tank of gas perfect for defending a country made up of thousands of islands. Tank Boat can carry more than a platoon of Indonesian Marines and features a tank-like turret to provide fire support.
Indonesia’s military on Sunday officially said all 53 crew members from a submarine that sank and broke apart last week are dead, and that search teams had located the vessel’s wreckage on the ocean floor.
The grim announcement came a day after Indonesia said the submarine was considered sunk, not merely missing, but did not explicitly say whether the crew was dead.
Officials previously said the KRI <i>Nanggala 402’</i>s oxygen supply would have run out early on Saturday, three days after the vessel went missing off the resort island of Bali.

An Indonesian submarine, which went missing last Wednesday, has been found buried deep in the Bali Sea, the country’s army and navy officials said April 25. The rescuers found new objects, including a life vest that they believe belong to those aboard the 44-year old KRI Nanggala-402. In the aftermath, the authorities have declared that the submarine sunk after it lost contact, following which all its crew died.
