This idea was further compounded when a man with 40 years of experience with the Australian Defence Force confirmed he had never seen anything like it.
Ray Martin wrote on Twitter: In 40 years in the ADF, with eight Prime Ministers during that time, never saw one receive a red carpet and an honour guard for an internal visit to a base.
Until now. Did I miss one?

Hell, we didn t even roll out the red carpet when the Prince Charles visited an RAAF base in Darwin back in 2018. You d think the next in line to the British throne would get one but nope.
Indonesia Close to Signing Rafale Contract: French Media Our Bureau 1526
Rafale jets @Dassault Aviation
Indonesia could become the latest customer for the French Rafale fighters with an agreement expected to be signed soon.
The contract is awaiting Indonesian presidential acceptance to route money from the Ministry of Defense account to buy the jets, LA Tribune reported today.
Indonesian Air Force plans to buy at least 36 Rafales. During a visit to Paris in October 2020, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto reiterated his keen interest in the Dassault Aviation fighter plane.
The two countries have initiated a strategic dialogue this year with the objective of quickly signing a cooperation agreement in the field of defense.
The plane is a super-maneuverable multipurpose fighter jet that incorporates many fifth-generation technologies.
Here s What You Need to Know: The Su-35 is a very capable platform that features important upgrades.
Given that it is a modernized version of a Cold War era Soviet fighter, it could be easy to dismiss the Sukhoi Su-35. Described as a heavily upgraded “generation four plus plus” (4++) derivative of the Su-27 aircraft, the Su-35 might not seem all that threatening even if the Su-27 has developed its own reputation as an agile and versatile war bird.
However, that is still a serious underestimation of the capabilities of what is among the most advanced of the Flanker family. In fact, since entering service in 2014, the Sukhoi Su-35 remains the top Russian air-superiority fighter. It can intercept and destroy all classes of aerial targets in ranged and close air engagements, and moreover can operate in an air superiority role.
