An Invercargill jury is hearing evidence of an alleged rape in Central Otago in 2018.
A lawyer representing a man accused of rape says the defendant accepts there was sexual activity but that it was consensual. A trial for the 26-year-oldman started in the Invercargill District Court on Monday. The man has pleaded not guilty to rape, two counts of unlawful sexual connection and male assaults female on December 28, 2018. The court was told the alleged incident happened near the Lake Hāwea Hotel after the defendant and the alleged victim, a female, were at a Rhythm & Alps pre-event.

Brendon McLeod appeared in court by video link on Thursday, and was granted bail. McLeod faces two charges of burglary less than $5, two charges of assaulting police, one charge of resisting police and one charge of injuring with intent to injure, all related to his subsequent arrest. He is expected to reappear in court in June. The business had cameras installed and posted pictures relating to the incident on social media.
