SFMTA Advances Action Plan for Racial Equity
SFMTA Advances Action Plan for Racial Equity Written by Marybeth Luczak, Executive Editor
With leadership from SFMTA Race, Equity and Inclusion Officer Josephine Ayankoya and Human Resources Director Kimberly Ackerman, the new Racial Equity Action Plan commits the agency “to ongoing action, reflection and refinement.”
The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has released the first phase of its Racial Equity Action Plan, covering internal programs and policies.
The plan document (download below) focuses on what must be done to ensure that worksites are supportive for all employees. It does so by assessing current conditions; identifying necessary staffing and resources; holding the agency accountable by setting timely, measurable goals and commitments; and addressing interpersonal and institutional racism within SFMTA.
Racial equity bill comes before Solano Legislative Committee
FAIRFIELD The Solano County Legislative Committee will consider taking a position Monday on a bill that would require each state agency to adopt and implement a Racial Equity Framework.
The legislation, Senate Bill 17, also would require the Governor’s Office to “provide technical assistance to agencies implementing strategies for racial equity consistent with the Racial Equity Action Plan.”
The committee also will consider taking a position on legislation that would provide $5 million from the state general fund to assist state and federal conservation programs where pollinator habitat and forage is established.
The committee positions are forwarded to the full Board of Supervisors as recommendations.
Boeing Terminates 65 Employees For racist, Hateful Conduct
CHICAGO (dpa-AFX) - Boeing terminated 65 employees and took other corrective action against 53 employees for engaging in or being a part of racist, discriminatory or otherwise hateful conduct.
In its annual diversity and inclusion report released Friday, the company said the employees were terminated between June 2020 and April 21, 2021.
The diversity report from Boeing came as U.S. companies have faced increasing pressure to address racism and discrimination in the U.S.
Last August, Boeing unveiled Racial Equity Action Plan, affirming its commitment to diverse hiring practices, addressing instances of conscious and unconscious racial bias, and investment millions in social justice nonprofits across the United States.
