In case of abuse, June 2021 marks eighty years since June 1941, when “patriotic” Lithuanians began the rapid and systemic slaughter of more than 200,000 of their fellow citizens because they were Jewish. As the Soviets retreated in the face of a massive German invasion, the Lithuanians opportunistically embarked upon the rape, robbery, enslavement, torture and murder of their defenseless Jewish neighbors. Although the Lithuanians have elevated their role in the Soviet retreat to a “National Uprising,” most of their shooting involved ambushing fleeing Russians and Jewish citizens they encountered in open areas.
