For the first time ever, City of Racine residents have at least one Latino or Latina representing them at all levels of local government: city council, school board and county
RACINE â Seniors at St. Catherineâs High School had concerns.
They were watching the number of students with COVID-19 tick up along with the number of students in quarantine.
They were worried the spiking numbers would result in the cancellation of prom â last year, COVID led to prom being postponed until August â or perhaps their graduation ceremony.
And they were frustrated, because no one seemed to be listening to their concerns.
On Monday, a group of seniors, along with some parents, and community leadership, staged a demonstration beginning at 6:20 a.m.

UNION GROVE â Peter Hansen, a business owner who rose to the highest levels of Racine County government, is being remembered as a selfless public servant.
Hansen, who served more than 30 years in local and county government, including as county board chairman and county executive, died April 27 at the age of 72 following a three-year battle with cancer.
In recognition of Hansenâs years of service, county officials are considering renaming the County Board meeting room as the the Peter L. Hansen Racine County Board Chambers.
Just two days before Hansen died, he was visited at his home in Union Grove by a whoâs who of Racine County politics, including County Executive Jonathan Delagrave, who told Hansen of the proposed renaming honor.
Whatâs going to be made?
It remains unclear what Foxconn will make under the new contract. Foxconn officials last year began hinting at the possibility of building electric vehicles, with manufacturer Fisker announcing in February a partnership with Foxconn to build vehicles. Last month, company chairman Young Liu said the Mount Pleasant factory was in the running, along with Mexico, to be Foxconnâs North American electric vehicle production hub â although no formal decisions have been made.
Foxconn has yet to receive any state dollars, but the project in Mount Pleasant already has cost the state more than $200 million in state and local road improvements, sales and use tax exemptions, grants to local governments and for worker training and employment. Foxconn officials estimated in October the company had invested $750 million in the state.
