Jean-Michel Jarre s latest project is a trip to the Amazon rainforest

With Amazonia, electro-pop pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre has delivered another experiment. The album is the soundtrack to the exhibition of the same name by the world-famous photographer Sebastiao Salgado. Expect a journey through the jungle. Shamanic chants, the crackling of fire, the long screech of a bird and synthesiser tones in between: Jarre’s latest album Amazonia is an attempt to capture the atmosphere of the world’s largest rainforest. “I approached the Amazon with respect, in a poetic and impressionistic way, ” the pioneer of electronic music said ahead of the release of the album, which he composed as a soundtrack for an exhibition by Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado.

JEAN-MICHEL JARRE Soundtrack for Amazônia

Electronic music pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre has composed and recorded a 52-minute musical score for ‘Amazônia,’ a new project by award-winning photographer and filmmaker Sebastião Salgado for the Philharmonic Paris. It follows Jarre’s recent triumphant virtual performance at Notre Dame for New Year’s Eve, which attracted over 75 million viewers worldwide. ‘Amazônia’ is an immersive exhibition focussing on the Brazilian Amazon, featuring more than 200 photographs and other media by Salgado. He travelled the region for six years, capturing the forest, the rivers, the mountains, and the people who live there, and most of the work will be seen publicly for the first time. At the heart of the exhibit is an invitation to see, hear and think about the future of biodiversity and the place of humans in the living world.
