Wyoming, Sweetwater County Active COVID-19 Cases See Slight Increase

CHEYENNE This week, the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) reports that active cases are at 410 confirmed cases, which is an increase of 23 cases since last Friday. Last Friday, active cases were at 387 and the week before that there were 357 active cases, marking a steady increase over the past two weeks. According to the White House COVID-19 Task Force, Wyoming had a 2.2 percent 14-day positivity rate from April 29 to May 12. This keeps Wyoming in the “yellow zone,” which means the state has moderate transmission levels.

Pfizer Vaccine Now Available for Residents 12 and Older

SWEETWATER COUNTY  Sweetwater County Public Health announced today it is ready to start administering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to residents 12 and older. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced yesterday in a press release that the Pfizer vaccine has now been approved for children 12 through 15. The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended and endorsed the safety and effectiveness of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and its use in 12 to 15-year-old adolescents, the CDC stated. State Reports Three More COVID-19 Related Deaths, One in Sweetwater County

CHEYENNE This week, the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH) confirmed three more Wyomingites have died due to complications from COVID-19. According to the WDH, an adult Sweetwater County man died in March. He had health conditions recognized as putting patients at higher risk of serious illness. An older adult Albany County man died in April. He was a resident of an out-of-state, long-term care facility and had health conditions recognized as putting patients at higher risk of serious illness, the WDH reported. She had health conditions recognized as putting patients at higher risk of serious illness. This brings Wyoming’s COVID-19 related deaths to 710 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Officials Report About 24 Percent of All Sweetwater County Residents Received COVID-19 Vaccine

SWEETWATER COUNTY With around 24 percent of Sweetwater County’s total population receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, local health officials are still encouraging residents to continue receiving the vaccine. During an informational COVID-19 meeting with local officials, industry personnel and media representatives, Sweetwater County Public Health officer Dr. Jean Stachon said vaccinations will be the key to keeping the COVID-19 virus under control. “COVID’s not over,” Dr. Stachon said. “Our numbers and numbers across country’s are looking better than they were months ago. I think vaccination is where most of our emphasis is going on now to protect ourselves. Particularly, since a lot of the orders from the governor have been lifted.”
