Coronavirus: Five COVID-19 deaths reported in Manitoba, 360 new cases

  WINNIPEG The death toll from COVID-19 in Manitoba continues to climb as five new deaths were reported Thursday. Three of the deaths are from Winnipeg; a woman in her 40s, a woman in her 70s, and a woman in her 90s linked to the B.1.1.7 variant. The other two deaths were a man in his 70s from the Northern Health Region and a man in his 80s from Southern Health linked to an unspecified variant. Manitoba has recorded 1,067 deaths. The province also added another 360 new COVID-19 cases, but five previously announced cases were removed due to a data correction.

Health officials say COVID-19 ICU admissions continue to push Manitoba s health-care system to the limit as 232 new cases and three deaths were reported Tuesday. The province s latest COVID-19 victims are all from the Winnipeg area and include a woman in her 80s and a man in his 60s, both linked to the B.1.1.7 strain, first identified in the United Kingdom, as well as a woman in her 50s. Their deaths bring Manitoba s COVID-19 death toll to 1,056.

One new COVID-19 death in Manitoba Sunday, active case count over 5,000

  WINNIPEG Another Manitoban has lost their life due to COVID-19 as the province s death count reaches 1,029. The latest death was a man in his 80s from the Southern Health Region. Manitoba also had another high case count Sunday with 461 new cases, however, two cases were removed due to a data correction. With the new cases, Manitoba s active case count has climbed to over 5,000 now sitting at 5,072. The province has had 48,436 cases since the start of the pandemic and 42,335 people have recovered. Winnipeg continues to have the highest number of new cases of COVID-19 with 299, and the five-day test positivity rate is 16.7 per cent.

Manitoba breaks single-day record with 560 more COVID-19 cases

The number of people in hospital Thursday due to COVID-19 jumped from 221 to 240. Another outbreak has been declared at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, while an outbreak has been declared over at the CN Rail offices at 821 Lagimodiere Blvd. The provincial test positivity rate is down slightly to 12 per cent. Winnipeg s rate was 14.4 per cent for the second day in a row. The total number of cases of more contagious coronavirus variants rose by 388 to 5,210. Of Manitoba s 4,046 active cases, 1,974 are now variants. So far, 1,002 people have died due to COVID-19, including 29 linked to variants. The three deaths announced Thursday are all linked to the B117 variant originally detected in the U.K. Those deaths are two women, in their 60s and 70s, from the Prairie Mountain Health region, and a man in his 70s from Winnipeg.
