William Fennell, an attorney representing 19 petitioners from West Springfield, spoke at Tuesday’s council meeting about their proposal for an overlay zone to allow digital billboards in the retail district of Riverdale Street (Route 5) and on industrial land facing Interstate 91 near the Holyoke city line. A separate group of 13 residents sent a letter in opposition. Town councilors seemed receptive to the proposal, but wanted to make sure Riverdale Street isn’t overwhelmed by flashing advertisements.

(WSFA) - A multi-county crime spree that started in Wetumpka ended in an officer-involved shooting in Escambia County, according to law enforcement. Wetumpka Assistant Police Chief Ed Reeves says a man stole a Nissan Armada at the Pace Car Gas Station nearly Highway 231 in Wetumpka on Thursday night. The SUV was parked at the gas station with the keys and an assault rifle inside. Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn said the suspect then drove the Armada to Evergreen, abandoned the vehicle and stole another vehicle there at gunpoint. That car was driven to Greenville where the suspect committed two additional carjackings, Lovvorn said.

(KMIZ) One of the three inmates who escaped Reality House is now charged with rape, three counts of domestic assault and one count of unlawful use of weapon. According to court documents, Lawrence Johnson was found at a motel on Nov. 27 in the 3400 block of I-70 Drive SE. The victim told police that Johnson had assaulted the victim and that the victim s mouth, face, back, ribs hurt and that it was hard to walk, according to the probable cause statement.
