Two new COVID-19 deaths reported in Barton County

Thursday afternoon, Barton County released its latest COVID-19 statistics, showing 60 new cases since its last report at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28. The total number of positive cases for the county is 2,085, and 163 of those are active.

Somehow, though, I think we’ll see an improvement. Already available are two vaccines against COVID-19, and immunization of those most vulnerable nursing home residents and front-line medical personnel is underway. Two shots administered either three or four weeks apart (depending on which vaccine) render the recipient all but invulnerable to the deadly coronavirus. I’ve spoken about the side effects with two providers who’ve received the vaccine. One, a physician, reported a golf ball-sized lump at the point of injection, plus a degree or two of fever and listlessness. As they demonstrated that his immune system was functioning properly, the doctor was “delighted” at the symptoms, which were gone in 36 hours. The other provider, a physician’s assistant, reported zero after-effect
