Detectives investigating the mysterious death of a former health boss have broadened their inquiries – interviewing a barber and a female masseuse known to her husband.
Pauline Hanna, 63, was found dead at the $4 million home she shared with her husband Philip Polkinghorne, who is a prominent eye surgeon, on April 5. The pair had been married for almost 30 years.
On Tuesday morning, a detective visited the flat of Polkinghorne’s barber, who
Stuff has chosen not to identify. The investigator asked the man to come in for an interview the following day. When
Stuff spoke to the man after the detective’s visit on Tuesday, he said he had every intention of co-operating with police, and he did not plan to ask for a lawyer.
DAVID WHITE/STUFF “I was his barber, I cut his hair. That’s all I know. “I’ve got nothing to hide.” The man said he had been Polkinghorne s hairdresser for about 18 months. In that period the surgeon had never spoken of Hanna, he said.

Police are investigating after a death in the Auckland suburb of Remuera.
Police are not ruling out foul play one month on from the death of a prominent Auckland health boss at her home in Remuera. Detectives continue to treat the sudden death on April 5 of Pauline Hanna, also known as Pauline Polkinghorne, as unexplained, as their investigation entered its fourth week.
Stuff has learned detectives have information suggesting Hanna had recently enlisted the services of a private investigator. As part of their inquiry, dubbed Operation Kian, they are working to track down that private investigator, whom Hanna had employed within the year before her death, it is understood.
