The City police have intensified enforcement of curbs introduced by the government in view of the COVID-19 outbreak.
On the first day of the restrictions, the police initiated legal action against 972 people for violating the pandemic norms. While 195 people were booked under the Kerala Epidemic Diseases Ordinance 2020, as many as 774 others were cumulatively fined Rs. 3.87 lakh for failing to wear masks outdoor. As many as 37,825 were issued strict warning by the police for other violations.
City Police Commissioner and Inspector General Balram Kumar Upadhyay urged the public to cooperate with the restrictions and to leave their homes only for essential activities. Home delivery must be encouraged. While those working in shops must wear double-layered masks, the pandemic protocol must be strictly adhered to. Only parcels and take-away facilities will be permitted in hotels and restaurants.

Tight security arrangements will be in place for the Republic Day celebrations that will be held at the Central Stadium on January 26.
According to the City Police Commissioner, Inspector General Balram Kumar Upadhyay, the venue has been divided into four zones, each helmed by an Assistant Commissioner, for effective security coordination. Each zone will be further divided into two sectors each led by two Inspectors each. Around 200 police personnel will be deployed within and outside the stadium in all.

Stringent traffic restrictions will be in force in the city from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday on account of the counting of votes polled during the local body elections.
Vehicles will be streamlined and prohibited prohibited along the MC Road stretch from near the Mar Ivanios College campus premises and along Kesavadasapuram, Paruthippara, Nalanchira, Kurissadi and Mannanthala.
Parking will not be permitted on either side of the MC Road stretch from Kesavadasapuram to Kurissadi junction, near the Mar Ivanios College campus, along the Mannanthala-Mukkola-Peroorkada road and Kesavadasapuram-Ulloor road. Candidates and booth agents will be allowed to park their vehicles at the Mar Ivanios College ground, while polling officials will be required to park their vehicles on the Sarvodaya School ground.
