Jan 27, 2021 8:36 AM On Saturday, Jan 23, 2021, Fred Freers, 85, moved from his home on earth to his home in heaven with Jesus.   Surviving him are his wife Karen, to whom he was married 63 years; his children: Robin Rains of Ohio, Kim and Victor Perez of Ohio, Kathy and Johnny Caudill of Colorado, Keith and Jennifer Freers of Michigan, and Kraig and Jenifer Freers of Colorado; his fourteen grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 28 at Restlawn Cemetery Chapel. Due to the pandemic, guests are limited to the family. Fred was born in Pittsburgh PA to Frederick E. and Wilhelmina (Eisner) Freers. Fred lived in many places through his life but in three predominantly. He lived most of his school years in Muscatine, Iowa where he met and married his wife Karen (Weikert).  After completing his education at the University of Iowa he moved to Holland Michigan where they raised their family.  After he retired he moved to Slaida, C

Officials remember, honor late Bill Nighbert

WILLIAMSBURG — Former Williamsburg Mayor Bill Nighbert passed away on Thursday. Nighbert served as Williamsburg mayor for 10 years during which time he also served as president of the Kentucky League of Cities. In 2004, Nighbert resigned from his position as mayor to take the position of Deputy Commissioner for the Governor’s Office for Local Development. Nighbert was appointed to that position by former Governor Ernie Fletcher and was named Secretary of the Transportation Cabinet the following year. Nighbert showed his love of the youth in his community as he was the president of the Optimist Club, coached little league football, baseball, and basketball, chaired the booster club and volunteered for countless other community activities.

Charles William “Bill” Nighbert passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 21, 2021. Bill was the beloved husband of Susan for thirty-four years and father to Brad (Monica), Renee (Chris), and Benton as well as brother to Dr. Ed Nighbert (Sharon) and Kenneth Nighbert (Anne). He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Lucille Kitchens. Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Williamsburg. He had various jobs in city and county government before being elected Mayor of Williamsburg. During that time, he served as President of the Kentucky League of Cities. He was appointed by Governor Ernie Fletcher as the Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Local Government and Secretary of the Transportation Cabinet. But more than his selfless community service, Bill will be remembered for his love of his friends and family.

Our relationship started when we preached for each other as part of the SBC Racial Reconciliation Sunday during the month of February,” Luter told the Baptist Press. “From there, our relationship developed to more than just colleagues to bring races together. We both shared the hope of drawing people closer to a relationship with Jesus Christ and then growing disciples for Christ. In both of our churches, our focus has been the same all of these years.
