Army storms IPOB hideout, arrests Ikonso’s second-in-command

Security operatives have arrested the second-in-command to the late leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Commander Ikonso.
The Nigerian Army in a statement on Wednesday night said Ikonso’s righthand man, Awurum Eze, was arrested in Aba, Abia State, where he was hiding.
The statement, which was signed by Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, was titled, ‘Security Forces Arrest Another IPOB/ESN Terrorists’ Henchman’.
Yerima said 48-year-old Eze, a native of Umoneke Nta, Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, was also a member of IPOB’s security outfit, Eastern Security Network.

The Nigerian Army said on Tuesday that it has commenced Investigation intọ the alleged killing of a Water Melon trader by a soldier after the seller demanded for payment of goods bought from the soldier in Sokoto.
A statement signed by Brig General Mohammed Yerima, Director Army Public Relations said, “The General Officer Commanding 8 Division Major General Usman Yusuf has since commissioned an investigation to unravel the circumstances that led to the altercations which eventually claimed one life as efforts are ongoing to arrest the the yet to be identified perpetrator.
Troops of 8 Division, Nigerian Army operating in Zamfara and adjoining states have stated that they made tremendous progress in the ongoing fight against banditry and other violent crimes in the North-west.
The troops in a statement signed by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, said they successfully cleared many bandits’ camps in Jaya, Kadaya, and Bayan Ruwa amongst several others and successfully neutralised 48 bandits.
They added that the bandits’ leader in the area Jummo sustained a gunshot wound on his leg while the troops rescued 18 kidnap victims from the bandits’ enclave.
Moreover, eight AK-47 rifles and one G3 rifle, as well as one PKT and a machine gun were recovered from the bandits.

The Nigerian Army has reacted the report making the rounds that a soldier allegedly shot a watermelon seller to death along Gasau – Sokoto road in Zamfara State.
DAILY POST had reported that a watermelon vendor was shot dead on Monday after demanding his pay from a military personnel who bought the fruit from him and refused to pay.
It was also alleged that some angry youths in the area reacted and chased the soldier into a hotel along Gusau – Sokoto Road.
Reacting, in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Muhammed Yerima, the NA noted that the General Officer Commanding 8 Division Major, General Usman Yusuf had ordered an investigation into the incident.
