MASSENA â Despite the pandemic that closed the Massena Public Libraryâs doors to the public for part of 2020, Director Elaine Dunne said the library still turned in some impressive numbers for the year.
The library released its 2020 annual report, detailing the final figures in a number of areas. The figures represent both the main library in Massena and its Badenhausen Branch in downtown Brasher Falls. The report must be submitted to the state annually.
âDespite being shut for a couple months and only operating for curbside services, we still managed to serve our patrons. I think that really showed in our annual report,â Ms. Dunne said.
âThatâs really exciting,â library Director Elaine Dunne said.
Unlike a previous temporary opening, no reservations are required, and the library will still be able to remain within the requirements for the number of people allowed in at one time.
âPeople no longer have to make appointments to come in. The last time we were open they had to make appointments,â Ms. Dunne said. âWe wonât reach half the capacity of our building. Itâs a large-enough building that we should be fine. The staff and the board feel that we can do this safely. Weâre confident that we can do this safely.â

MASSENA – As part of efforts to evaluate services, the Massena Public Library is asking residents to take a survey on how they use the library and what they might want to see in the future.
The survey appears in the Jan. 9 edition of North Country This Week, and can be accessed on the Massena Public Library’s Facebook page, as well as the website at www.massenapubliclibaray.org.
According to Director Elaine Dunne, the library is in the initial stages of formulating a long-range plan, which will help library officials ensure the goals match the needs of the community.
