It s hard to believe that this classic Korean film is twenty years old. Featuring the talents of Old Boy director Park Chan-wook and Parasite actor Song Kang-ho, Joint Security Area (often referred to as JSA) is the 2000 taut thriller that centers on a military murder investigation involving a fatal shooting incident that occurred within the DMZ (the demilitarized zone/border barrier that divides North and South Korea).
The film, which also stars Lee Young-ae (from Lady Vengeance) and Lee Byung-hun (from I Saw the Devil and The Magnificent Seven) and was based on the novel DMZ by Park Sang-yeon, was universally celebrated by critics and became an international hit after being screened at the 2001 Berlin Film Festival.
