NAB chief asks regional offices to improve efficiency

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal directed the regional bureaus for effective oversight to improving the standard and quality of complaint verifications, inquiries and investigations, so that references were filed on the basis of solid evidence.
NAB Chairman Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal chaired a meeting to review the performance of the organisation at its headquarters to review the overall performance, especially under trial cases in accountability courts. It was also attended by NAB Deputy Chairman Hussain Asghar, Prosecutor General Accountability Syed Asghar Haider, Director General Operations Zahir Shah, and DGs of regional bureaus.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had decided to introduce courses for the capacity-building of investigation officers and prosecutors and improve the functioning of the forensic science laboratory in order to improve the quality of its inquiries and investigations.
Chairing a high-level meeting, NAB Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal directed the bureau’s officials to utilise all available resources to conclude the mega corruption and white-collar crimes cases on scientific basis so that the corrupt elements could be punished.
The meeting at the NAB headquarters was also attended by Deputy Chairman Hussain Asghar, Prosecutor General Accountability Syed Asghar Haider, Director General Operations Zahir Shah besides all directors general of the regional bureaus of the graft buster via video link.

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau s Executive Board Tuesday approved filing corruption references in the mega fake bank accounts scam against former Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chairman Ejaz Haroon, Abdul Ghani Majeed of Omni Group and others for their alleged involvement in illegal allotment of plots in Overseas Cooperative Housing Society Limited (Kidney Hills), Karachi, and payment for the plots through fake bank accounts which inflicted heavy losses on the national exchequer.
Rejecting allegations against the NAB, the Executive Board also announced initiating a probe into what it called baseless, misleading, concocted and fabricated propaganda against it to tarnish its image as an institution under Clause 31 (a) of the NAB Ordinance. LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau Chairman Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal Friday informed the Lahore High Court that he had not committed contempt of court as inquiries against Federal Minister Khusro Bakhtiar and his brother Provincial Minister Hashim Jawan Bakht into allegations of amassing assets beyond know sources of income were underway and would be completed soon.
In a reply submitted in response to a contempt petition filed by Ahsan Abid Advocate, the NAB chairman said the bureau was working independently and impartially and the minister brothers were not exerting political pressure. He pleaded the court to dismiss the contempt petition with heavy costs.
