Inter-county training and matches no longer deemed elite sport

Inter-county training and matches no longer given elite sport exemption February 10, 2021 Inter-county training and matches is not elite sport now. The Government has clarified to the GAA that inter-county training and matches will no longer get an exemption to take place under the current Level 5 Covid-19 restrictions. This was the major outcome of a meeting which took place earlier this week between members of the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association and Minister of State for Sport Jack Chambers. Inter-county activities had previously been deemed elite sport , alongside professional sports, and it looks like it will be April before they return after the GAA s Covid Advisory committee recommended that no training or matches take place until Easter at the earliest (Easter Sunday falls on 4 April).
