Covid: Sensitivity levels of two saliva self-test kits above 90 pct: Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR: Studies done by the Medical Research Institute (IMR) have found that two self-test devices (Rapid Antigen test) that use saliva for Covid-19 screening, have sensitivity levels of above 90 per cent. Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham (pix) said the studies conducted by IMR had been completed and that the details on the guidelines for the use of the self-test kits were expected to be ready next week. “Evaluation on two saliva self-testing devices have been completed by the IMR and both have a sensitivity of over 90 per cent. The MDA (Medical Device Authority) is detailing the usage guidelines and Insha Allah (God willing) it will be completed next week,“ he said in a Twitter post today.

Picture by Miera Zulyana KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 The current nationwide Covid-19 effective reproduction number (Rt) continued to stay in the 1.13 range recorded yesterday as cases continue to soar in the country. In a tweet, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham showed that the Rt has increased slightly yesterday from 1.11, but remains below the 1.14 rate two days ago. Dr Noor Hisham said that Kedah remains the state with the highest Rt at 1.31, with Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Terengganu, Melaka, Johor, Selangor, Perak, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur all recording infectivity rates of more than 1.0.
