(WXYZ) â Extended unemployment benefits in Michigan will end after this week, according to the state.
The state said that the U.S. Department of Labor notified the Unemployment Insurance Agency that the extended benefits program will not be payable after the week ending April 17, 2021. according to the state, it s because the unemployment rate is down.
Those benefits are only eligible when the state s total unemployment rate averages 6.5% or higher for three consecutive months. It provides an additional 13-20 weeks of benefits for those who have exhausted their regular unemployment benefits.

LANSING, Mich. â Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and the stateâs Unemployment Insurance Agency shared details Friday about tax documents needed for people who were victims of identity theft as a result of widespread fraudulent unemployment claims in 2020.
The Unemployment Insurance Agency has begun issuing 1099-G tax forms to all claimants who received unemployment benefits, according to a news release.
If someone receives a UIA 1099-G form but did not receive unemployment benefits, that person is likely a victim of identity theft and should report it immediately.

(WXYZ) â The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency said it completed system updates for extended federal unemployment insurance, and those on unemployment whose claims ended in December can now reopen, certify or apply for benefits.
People had their claims end when the CARES Act programs were interrupted in December, and now under the Continued Assistance Act, people can reopen or certify.
Self-employed, gig workers now able to get extra $300 in jobless aid in Mich.
Workers relying on jobless aid in the form of Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation can now reopen or certify their claims for the extra $300 in federal aid authorized by Congress in December.
Pandemic Unemployment Assistance is jobless aid available to those not always eligible for unemployment, such as self-employed or gig workers. Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation is for those who exhausted state benefits last year.
People seeking to apply under PUA and PEUC have been delayed since December as they waited for the state Unemployment Insurance Agency to update its system to comply with the federal extension, which also added 11 weeks of benefits.
