Vice President Kamala Harris, in Chicago on Tuesday afternoon to showcase the Biden administration COVID vaccination drive and its equity efforts delivered a bunch of “shots in the arm” while she was here.
Figuratively, of course.
The Harris Chicago shots in the arm boosted:
·Organized labor, a mainstay of the Democratic base. She toured a vaccination center organized by the Chicago Federation of Labor in partnership with the City of Chicago at the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399 union hall at 2260 S. Grove St. It’s for Chicago area union members who are eligible for the vaccine.

CHICAGO - Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday urged Chicago union members to share their experience receiving a COVID-19 vaccine and act as role models for family and friends who may be reluctant even as Illinois prepares to open access to all adults.
Harris visited a vaccination site in Chicago that opened last week for union workers. Chicago officials also hope the dedicated site will improve vaccination rates among Black and Latinx city residents.
After touring the site, Harris spoke to union members and said the site was a model for the country. She told a group of vaccinated union members that their next task is encouraging others to receive a vaccine once eligible.

A steady, monthlong surge in COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations took its latest troubling step up in Illinois Tuesday as officials reported 2,931 new cases of the virus, and positivity rates soared to levels not seen in months.
The latest infections were diagnosed among 51,625 tests, meaning 5.7% of samples came back positive the highest proportion of new cases reported by the Illinois Department of Public Health in a single day since Jan. 19.
Vice President Kamala Harris, joined by Illinoisâ top Democrats, touted efforts to expand vaccination sites in underserved communities Tuesday as the White House announced all adults in the U.S. will be eligible for vaccines by April 19 rather than May 1.
Harris, making a brief visit to the city en route to Washington from her home state of California, toured a vaccination site run by the Chicago Federation of Labor for union workers as she invoked the spring season and âa sense of renewalâ despite times of isolation and death from the pandemic.
âWe see light at the end of the tunnel because weâve gone through so much as a nation,â Harris said.
Lisle mayoral candidate Stephen A. Winz failed in his bid for mayor after several incidents in his past came to light during his campaign.
With 93.33% of precincts reporting, Winz had 903 votes, coming in behind Christopher R. Chris Pecak with 1,498 votes and ahead of Sara Sadat with 755 votes.
Winz, a village trustee, was involved in
a bar fight in 2017 after he allegedly harassed a one-legged man. In a police report by Lisle Police Officer Jason Hurt regarding the incident, Hurt wrote that one witness stated that Winz was rude to the one-legged guy, and after identifying that person, he noted everyone was refusing to talk with the officers or were giving different versions of the event.
