FTMTA figures show that 3,010 used tractors were imported and registered in Ireland in 2020, down just 1.1% on 2019 figures.
Used tractor imports in 2020 have seen a very marginal 1.1% decrease in activity in comparison to 2019, according to figures from the Farm Tractor & Machinery Trade Association (FTMTA).
Registrations of used imported tractors into Ireland continued their recovery in the later months of the year from the record low levels of the second quarter when less than 100 used imports were registered across three months. This was due to the closure of the NCT centres under the public health restrictions in relation to COVID-19.
Among all the gloom of 2020 it might be expected that less money was being spent on farm machinery. However, this appears not to be the case with new tractor registrations only 3pc down from 2019.
FTMTA planning outdoor event for 2021
“We will make a final decision at the end of March,” confirmed FTMTA chief executive Gary Ryan.
Continuing, Ryan said:
If it goes ahead, the event will take place in the open air and will have a three-day format.
“There is a huge appetite amongst the general public for a traditional machinery event. And FTMTA members feel likewise.
“Our planning for 2021 is wholly dependent on the Covid-19 situation. If the vaccination programme is seen to be working, then it will be so much easier for us to plan head.
“We have also to work through the format option for an event in 2021. Will it be focussed on static machinery or will it be run along lines similar to those followed for the FTMTA Grass and Muck events?
