Surface coupling of methyl radicals for efficient low-temperature oxidative coupling of methane

E-Mail IMAGE: Researchers demonstrated 5 wt.% Na2WO4/SiO2 as the first heterogeneous coupling catalyst for oxidative coupling of methane. The bifunctional system generated CH3 radicals over La2O3 and selectively coupled CH3 . view more  Credit: Chinese Journal of Catalysis Oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) is an economically valuable and promising reaction because it can directly convert the abundant feedstock natural gas into valuable C 2 hydrocarbons. The commercialization of OCM, however, is hampered by the low yield of C 2 products, which is associated with OCM reaction mechanism. It is generally accepted that traditional OCM reaction follows a heterogeneous-homogeneous mechanism, which consists of a heterogeneous activation of methane at the surface of catalysts to generate methyl radicals (CH

Southern Illinois professor indicted for grant fraud | Internal Revenue Service

CARBONDALE, IL A mathematics professor and researcher at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) is under federal indictment for grant fraud. Mingqing Xiao of Makanda, Illinois, is accused of fraudulently obtaining $151,099 in federal grant money from the National Science Foundation (NSF) by concealing support he was receiving from an arm of the Chinese government and a Chinese public university. Xiao is charged with two counts of wire fraud and one count of making a false statement. The prosecution is part of the Justice Department s ongoing China Initiative. Led by the Department s National Security Division (NSD), the China Initiative is an effort to safeguard American intellectual property and research programs and counter the multi-faceted threat posed by the PRC government to U.S. national security.

NAOC scientists make further step towards understanding dark energy

E-Mail IMAGE: Exploration of the Universe by the SDSS mission during the past two decades (1998-2019) view more  Credit: eBOSS collaboration The extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS) collaboration has released its latest scientific results. These results include two studies on dark energy led by Prof. ZHAO Gongbo and Prof. WANG Yuting, respectively, from National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(NAOC). The study led by Prof. Zhao was recently published in Based on eBOSS observations, Prof. ZHAO s team measured the history of cosmic expansion and structure growth in a huge volume of the past universe, corresponding to a distance range between 0.7 and 1.8 billion light years away from us. This volume had never been probed before.
