Mumbai, May 21 : The Mumbai Police has lodged an FIR invoking charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the master of the Barge Papaa-305 and others in connection with the vessel tragedy in the Arabian Sea which left at least 51 dead and many more missing, officials said here on Friday.
The Yellowgate police station acted on a complaint filed by the Barge chief engineer Rahman H. Shaikh who was among the survivors rescued by the Indian Navy earlier this week even as Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) and Afcons Infrastructure Ltd (AIL) announced compensation for the victims.

Mumbai, May 21 : Mumbai Police has lodged an FIR invoking charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the master of the Barge Papaa-305 and others in connection with the vessel tragedy in the Arabian Sea which left at least 60 dead and many more missing, officials said on Friday.

Required fields Cyclone Tauktae had hit Arabian Sea off the coast of Mumbai in the early hours of May 17, 2021 where ONGC s major production installations and drilling rigs are located. Three construction barges of M/s Afcons working on a project of ONGC in Western Offshore fields in the Arabian Sea and one floater drilling rig of ONGC were severely impacted in the cyclone. All the anchors of the Barge P-305 had given away, it started drifting and hit an unmanned platform of ONGC resulting in water ingress and eventually capsized at around 1700 Hrs of 17 May 2021. ONGC OSVs (Offshore Supply Vessels) were immediately pressed into service for rescue operation along with INS Kochi and INS Kolkata of Indian Navy and Coast Guard vessel.

Even as Cyclone Tauktae is weakening, as many as 93 crew members of an ONGC barge – Barge Papaa (P-305) - are still marooned in the Arabian Sea after the vessel sank 35 nautical miles off the Mumbai coast.
