The abduction took place on an ONGC rig site in the Lakwa field in the early hours of April 21, the company outlined. The abducted employees were taken in an operational vehicle belonging to ONGC, which was later found abandoned near the Nimonagarh jungles close to the Assam-Nagaland border, according to ONGC.
A complaint has been lodged by ONGC with the local police, the company noted. Higher officials of the state police were said to be on site on Wednesday and ONGC said local administration had also been informed about the incident. The company said it was in constant touch with the higher authorities.

This is the second kidnapping case to hit the oil sector in the Northeast since December last year when the rebel outfit abducted two employees of a private oil drilling company Quippo Oil and Gas Infrastructure Limited from Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh. They were released in early April.

DIGBOI/DEMOW: Suspected ULFA militants kidnapped three employees of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) on Wednesday from a rig at Lakwa inside Lakuwa Tea Estate under Simalguri Police Station in Sivasagar district.
The development came close on the heels of the release of two employees of Quippo Oil and Gas Infrastructure Limited by the outfit in the first week of April.
Confirming the development ONGC spokesperson Jamil Passa said that the abducted employees include junior engineers Ritul Saikia and Mohini Mohan Gogoi, and junior technician Alakesh Saikia, all working in the production department of the Corporation.
