Salvation Army of Greater Rochester to resume one-on-one appointments Monday

WHECTV Created: April 30, 2021 11:37 AM ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) The Salvation Army of Greater Rochester Friday announced it will reopen its doors for one-on-one appointments effective Monday. The organization says it put in place extensive safety precautions, and face masks and social distancing continue to be required. Additionally, it says food services will continue Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., while other services will be by appointment. The organization said it saw an increase in demand for services of more than 50%. Like other organizations, It s more about the person and caring for the person and I think everyone else in the world at this time we are missing that interaction, it s something that s been hurting us and hurting the community so we re super excited to reopen and start that again, Emergency Family Services Program Manager Matt Smeltzer said.

On a typical day, Salvation Army’s Emergency Family Services program provides food, hygiene items and other assistance to about 80 people. The need has remained strong over a year into the COVID-19 pandemic. “Really, the best way to explain is we serve the entire family with whatever their needs are,” said Matt Smeltzer, manager of Emergency Family Services.

Salvation Army, Walmart team up to try and reach fundraising goal

Its annual Red Kettle Campaign is far short of the goal of $350,000, with only $203,000 raised so far this holiday season. But, from now until New Years Eve, you ll have the opportunity to help. The organization is teaming up with Walmart to allow customers to round up their purchases and donate. Leaders say there s an unprecedented level of need this year, and want to make it easier for people to help others. If you can t make it to a Walmart but still want to pitch in, you can do it by text or online.
