Virtual Teddy and Toque Toss raises $11,000 for Salvation Army Food Bank

The 2020 Prince George Cougar’s Virtual Teddy and Toque Toss raised $11,000 for the Salvation Army Food Bank.
“It’s been an honour to partner with The Salvation Army for so many years and we were blown away by the response of our fans, local businesses, and the community to help combat the unprecedented challenges so many are facing during this pandemic,” said Cougars’ Vice President, Business Andy Beesley.
Despite the longstanding tradition moving online to adhere to provincial guidelines, the initial campaign goal of $5,000 was beaten within a couple of days.

December 1:
Half the organisations facing charges over the deadly Whakaari/White Island eruption that claimed 22 lives have come forward, forgoing name suppression ahead of the first court appearance.
WorkSafe NZ has laid criminal charges against 10 organisations and three individuals following the catastrophic eruption on December 9 last year.
December 2:

The Thompson Salvation Army were surprised they were able to raise $50,933 in December despite only putting out a few Christmas kettles due to COVID-19.
Normally, many kettles would be set up in the malls and businesses around Thompson. This year, the kettles were not manned because of the pandemic and therefore, the Salvation Army did not expect to meet their usual target much less to surpass it.

In 2019, they managed to raise $48,000. In 2020, they exceeded their previous donations by approximately $3,000.
The front office, hallways, corners and coffee room at Lower Similkameen Community services are completely stacked full with pantry fare, dry goods and gifts for those in need of a lift through the holiday season.
