With the annual Shop-with-a-Cop event canceled due to COVID-19, the Lake County Sheriff s Office has still committed to helping local children have a better Christmas this year.
The Lake County Sheriff s Office announced Friday that it partnered with the the Salvation Army to support its Angel Tree program, putting $10,000 into 100 gift cards to provide gifts for as many Lake County children. Although we are saddened to not be able to hold our annual Shop with a Cop event this year, we were excited to participate in the Salvation Army s Angel Tree program, Lake Sheriff Peyton Grinnell said. Our employees adopted 100 angels and will make this Christmas a little brighter for 100 deserving children living in Lake County. I appreciate our employees stepping up in a time of need and I couldn t be more proud.

Logan Quinney, who now manages the shelter at The Salvation Army, initially thought heâd have a career in law enforcement.
The 26-year-old from Conover majored in criminal justice at East Carolina University. He gained an interest in social work through an internship his senior year working with impoverished and troubled youth in Greenville.
When he returned to Catawba County, he worked as the assistant director for The Salvation Armyâs Angel Tree program.
The experience of working that program â seeing families cry in gratitude after receiving gifts â resonated deeply with Quinney.
âPretty much after that, I was just hooked,â Quinney said. âIt made it feel like I was just coming here to do good every day. It didnât feel like a job to me.â
