Pandemic pressures and toxic drug supplies are fueling an opioid death crisis, social service leaders said Thursday in the wake of an Ontario report showing overdose fatalities skyrocketed in 2020.
But there are solutions, if attitudes and policies change, they say.

“The reality here is that we still don’t treat substance use as a health issue. It’s very stigmatized. It’s definitely still treated primarily as a moral and ethical issue,” said Chuck Lazenby, head of the Unity Project shelter in London.
