Veteran celebrates 100th birthday by giving back

A man from Susquehanna County celebrated his 100th birthday on Saturday, but he wasn t accepting any gifts for himself. Last year, Twin Tiers Honor Flight, an organization that brings veterans to visit memorials in Washington D.C., teamed up with Harold Gary s friends to get folks to send him birthday cards.

Twin Tiers Honor Flight is a program based in Binghamton, New York, that pairs veterans with guardians and pays to bring them by plane or bus to see the memorials in Washington DC. Since 2014, Twin Tiers Honor Flight has done nine trips, bringing more than 500 veterans to the memorials, including 99-year-old Harold Gary of Montrose. It was such a gift to veterans, almost undeserved. It seemed like to me, Gary said.

It s the Broome County Festival of Lights and because of all the bad weather that we experienced, they are staying open until Saturday, January 23rd. They also have new hours as they ll be open from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. EVERY NIGHT. There are a few special nights at Otsiningo Park that you don t want to miss.
