Echo Pilot The Greencastle-Antrim School Board is scheduled to decide next week how to close the $867,157 gap between revenues and expenditures in the 2021-22 budget. The board is expected to approve the final budget during a meeting beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 17, in the high school library. The finance committee is recommending a 2.5% property tax increase and taking $250,000 from capital reserves to make up most of the difference between $44,272,428 in projected revenues and $45,139,585 in projected expenditures, according to committee member Tracy Baer.

State Board postpones action on state ESSER plan Published State Board postpones action on state ESSER plan BOISE, Idaho (KIFI) - The Idaho State Board of Education voted Friday to postpone approval of its plan to use more than $146 million in federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds made available through the American Rescue Plan Act signed into law earlier this year. ESSER funds can be put to various uses to help school districts keep schools operating safely and to address problems such as “unfinished learning” - students who fell behind during pandemic. State ESSER plans are due to be submitted to the federal government on Monday, June 7, but the State Board was granted an extension by the U.S. Department of Education. The Board will consider approval of the plan during its regular Board meeting on June 16.

File photo: Jessica Cejnar Though they acknowledged that most parents are focused on the upcoming school year, Del Norte Unified officials propose to restructure its four in-town elementary campuses so that half serve transitional kindergarten through second-grade students and the other half house third- through fifth-grade students. Included in DNUSD’s Local Control Accountability Plan for the 2021-22; 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years, the proposal would impact Joe Hamilton, Mary Peacock, Bess Maxwell and Pine Grove elementary schools, Superintendent Jeff Harris told trustees at a special meeting Thursday.
