Unions and principals warn the government is pushing the new curriculum into classrooms too soon, risking poor-quality syllabuses, under-prepared teachers and short-changed students.
But the head of the curriculum authority has defended the ambitious timetable, saying there is a âmoral imperativeâ for students to be taught the upgraded courses as soon as possible.
The proposal to streamline and reduce ambiguity in the stateâs syllabuses was made when a two-year review of the NSW curriculum was finalised last June. The reviewâs chair, Professor Geoff Masters, suggested a 10-year timeframe.
