Amanda Gorman, the nation s first-ever youth poet laureate, delivered a message of the country s resilience through her poem at President Biden s inauguration ceremony. Being American is more than a pride we inherit. It s the past we step into and how we repair it, Gorman said. We will not march back to what was, but move to what shall be, a country that is bruised but whole, benevolent but bold, fierce and free. We will not be turned around or interrupted by intimidation because we know our inaction and inertia will become the future, she continued.

New Delhi, Jan 21 : Over the past few months people have been asking the question why does fashion matter? Fashion matters for many reasons-but at the heart of it, it is because fashion stands for something. What you wear speaks of who you are, especially if you are in the public eye, this becomes amplified.
Outfits worn by the First Lady on the day of the inauguration often end up in museums, becoming pieces of historic significance. Who can forget Jackie Kennedy s Oleg Cassini blue suit with a matching pillbox hat or the yellow Isabel Toledo dress with olive green J Crew gloves that Michelle Obama wore. (Melania Trump s flaunt your labels style of dressing serves as an example of how a lady should not dress, whether in the public eye or not). Kamala Harris has shattered the glass ceiling, becoming the first woman, and first Black person of South Asian descent to be elected US vice president.
Her husband Doug Emhoff also joins her in breaking stereotypes as the first “Second Gentleman” in US history as well as becoming the first Jewish spouse of a vice president.
Until now, the US has only seen women as spouses, or first and second ladies to the president and vice president.
Following Joe Biden’s win in the presidential election in November, the media had grappled for some time as to what they should call Emhoff.
