Stage Set For Biden s Inauguration
WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Stage is set outside the Capitol for Joseph R. Biden, Jr. to be sworn in as the 46th President of the United States at noon Wednesday. Biden, 78, and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, 56, will be sworn in by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts.
Born to parents of Indian and Jamaican origins, Harris will become the first colored Asian-American to be elevated to the post. She will also become the first woman U.S. Vice President.
Biden helmed a Democratic return to power by defeating incumbent President Donald Trump in the hotly contested presidential election. Trump, who has not yet conceded defeat alleging that his opponent stole the election, will depart the White House on Wednesday morning, breaking the long-held tradition of welcoming the incoming President and attending the inaugural ceremony.

Kamala Harris on Wednesday opted to wear a dress designed by two Black designers for her historic inauguration as the US Vice-president. Her husband and the Second Gentleman, Doug Emhoff was wearing a Ralph Lauren suit. In fact, the President-elect Joe Biden was also wearing a navy suit and navy overcoat by the American designer.
Harris, 56, has created history by becoming the first woman, first Black and first Indian-American vice president of the United States.
In opting to wear the dress designed by Christopher John Rogers and Sergio Hudson, Harris has sent her own message to the country that Black designers have arrived on the scene.

America s fashion industry was given a boost of confidence on inauguration day as President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and First Lady Jill Biden attended the day s events wearing looks from the country s designers.
Harris stepped out in a purple dress and coat by Christopher John Rogers, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The winner of the 2019 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award, Rogers is one of the most buzzed-about young Black designers working today, having dressed former FLOTUS Michelle Obama, Beyoncé and Rihanna. While Rogers is best known for his use of bold colors and dramatic silhouettes, Harris went for more pared-down look, in line with her usual, more minimal sensibilities.
