Dogs All Around Amarillo Could Freeze To Death
With temperatures plunging in the Texas panhandle, stray dogs are incredibly vulnerable to the extreme cold temperatures. Forecasters expect temperatures to fall to at least 11 below zero over the weekend.
Two local rescue groups are reaching out and asking for your help. Gracie’s Group and SCAR (Second Chance Animal Rescue) are looking for assistance to save animals from the extreme weather.

Each year, more than 200,000 healthy dogs and cats are euthanised in Australia, due to overcrowding in shelters that simply can’t cope with the number of animals being abandoned and surrendered on a daily basis.
It’s a tragic cycle that ex-vet nurse Marisa Debattista and the volunteers at Second Chance Animal Rescue (SCAR) are determined to break.
As well as rescuing, fostering and re-homing as many condemned cats and dogs as they can, they run community outreach programs, offering free de-sexing, vet services and pet food to disadvantaged owners in the hope of preventing many animals from being abandoned in the first place.

Dawna Mae Lavoie (Ledoux) of Bethlehem, N.H., passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 23, 2020 at her home in Sugar Hill, N.H. at the age of 55.
Dawna was born Nov. 16, 1965 to parents John and Myrtle Ledoux of Bethlehem, N.H. She grew up as the youngest of four and attended Profile High School. Over the years she had several jobs in the local community to include Garnet Hill, Pollyâs Pancake Parlor, Lafayette Center, and most recently Walmart.
Dawna started dating Leo Lavoie II in October 2014 and the couple were married in Sugar Hill on Aug. 12, 2017. Over the past six years the couple enjoyed camping, bird watching, gardening, and spending time with friends and family.

Farm Neck Foundation announces $121,000 in grants
The Farm Neck Foundation has announced its annual grants for 2020, totaling $121,591.
The grants varied in amount, and went to 18 different Island organizations. The Farm Neck Foundation is an independent charitable corporation created by Farm Neck Golf Club that provides charitable assistance to Martha’s Vineyard organizations. The grants are as follows:
$31,145 to Martha’s Vineyard Agricultural Society for funds to support the Geese Population Control Project.
$10,000 to the Red Stocking Fund for funding for the Kerry Alley Endowment.
$15,000 to MVY Radio to support a capital campaign to purchase a building to house the radio station.
