Northumberland brewery picks up double gold medal at international competition

Updated Thursday, 6th May 2021, 10:50 am The brewery, which shares a site with popular pub The Twice Brewed Inn on one of the most dramatic stretches of Hadrian’s Wall near Bardon Mill, had entered its Juno Pilsner into the European Beer Challenge 2021. Billed as ‘Europe’s Most Important Beer Competition’, The Twice Brewed’s Juno was one of thousands of beer samples entered into the contest from breweries across 39 countries. The judges were ‘blown away’ by the taste of the Northumberland-made Bohemian style Pilsner and decided that it was worthy of a Double Gold Medal accolade. Juno Pilsner from The Twice Brewed Brew House has won a Double Gold Medal at the European Beer Challenge.

Peter Jackson, Chairman of the Nenthead Mines Conservation Society and an expert in his field, will be talking about Mining in the North Pennines. Nenthead Mines is a fascinating and historic place at Nenthead, near Alston. This remote valley is covered by remains from the lead and zinc mining industry of the North Pennines, including mine entrances, watercourses, dressing-floors and buildings. The site is famous for its geology and is notable for rare lichens and plants growing on the metal-rich mine dumps. Most of the valley is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The Northumberland Dark Skies Festival brought to living rooms

THE Twice Brewed Inn’s stargazing team is preparing to bring the wonder of the night sky to online audiences during February half term as part of the Northumberland Dark Skies Festival. The Northumberland observatory, which is attached to The Twice Brewed Inn, on Hadrian’s Wall, is taking part in the inaugural Festival, which is inviting people to log on for a series of virtual-only events, due to the current Covid-19 restrictions. Wil Cheung, who heads up The Twice Brewed’s astronomy team, has scheduled a number of special Facebook live sessions designed to bring the wonders of the night sky to life for stargazers of all ages and abilities during the school holidays.

Northumberland National Park inspires new generation of stargazers

The Battlesteads Dark Sky Observatory, in Wark on Tyne, North-East A NEW generation of stargazers are being inspired following the launch of a dark skies festival. Northumberland National Park is working together with CLIF Bar to launch a new initiative to follow on from the first virtual Northumberland Dark Skies Festival. The site was one of five National Parks in the UK to receive a grant from CLIF Bar as part of their National Parks Protectors Fund, receiving a £10,000 grant to support the park’s dark skies conservation projects. The project helps to raise public awareness of the issues of light pollution, and the need to help conserve the pristine dark skies.
