Jacksonville Terminal Releases New 53’ Intermodal Containers
By Railroad Model Craftsman Staff
Jacksonville Terminal Company is releasing new N scale 53-foot intermodal containers, including two for current domestic carriers and three in schemes paying tribute to a trio of iconic model railroads.
The prototype releases are two new 53-foot corrugated domestic intermodal containers painted for Hub Group (HGIU) in salmon orange and Twin Logistics (TLGU) in medium green. Each model is created from tooling customized to each prototype. Each of these models features the appropriate number of side corrugations (8-55-8) and correct nose and rear door designs corresponding to prototype road numbers.

The second annual Walthers National Model Railroad Build-Off is underway. On Feb. 1, the nearly 90-year-old model railroad manufacturer kicked off its second-ever module building contest that tests the skills of beginners and experts alike.
This month, participants are purchasing bundles of Walthers kits that must be incorporated into a finished model and they have until May 30, 2021, to share their results. Each bundle has a theme. One includes a depot and interlocking tower, another has a grain elevator and a third has a coal mine. There are individual, team, and youth categories. There is also an open class for N, O and HO modelers who chose not to purchase the bundle (This was done so people in all 50 states can participate since the last year’s rules prevented residents of Maryland, North Dakota and Colorado from participating).

The Amherst Railway Society’s Railroad Hobby Show in West Springfield, Mass., one of the largest railroad events in North America that annually attracts more than 20,000 people over two days, is going online this weekend after being forced to cancel its physical event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The West Springfield show is one of the highlights of the winter for modelers and railfans alike in the Northeast. Show director John Sacerdote said he was “devastated” when they decided late last year to cancel the physical event at the Eastern States Exposition Fairgrounds. However, he also knew he wanted to do something to bring some attention to the vendors, manufacturers, and museums that fill four buildings every January.
N Scale Group Embraces New Name, Mission
By Railroad Model Craftsman Staff
The group behind the NTRACK and T-TRAK modular standards is embracing a new name and a new mission in the new year. On Jan. 1, NTRAK announced that it would be now be called NRail.
“As we have expanded our scope over the past few years, it has become evident that we are more than just NTRAK and the newsletter and our show activities have reflected that. But for many N scalers, NTRAK is a specific modular standard,” the group announced.“With that in mind, the Board has considered a new name and approved NRail as a more appropriate name to match our goals and our ongoing evolution as an organization. Legally, our new name is NRail, Inc.”
