Baghdad, May 9 : The Iraqi government has decided to impose a 14-day quarantine on those evacuated from India to ensure that they were not infected with the new double mutant Covid19 variant identified in the South Asian country.
Ryadh Abdul-Amir, head of the Public Health Department in the Iraqi Health Ministry, told the media on Saturday that the first batch of evacuees would be quarantined in a hotel in eastern Baghdad and tested and monitored by medical teams for 14 days before leaving, reports Xinhua news agency.

BAGHDAD, May 7 (Xinhua) The Iraqi Ministry of Health reported on Friday 5,763 new coronavirus cases, raising the total nationwide number to 1,103,950. A statement by the ministry also reported 29 new COVID-19 deaths, raising the death toll from the infectious virus to 15,702, while the total recoveries in Iraq climbed by 6,289 to 992,423. A total of 9,606,567 tests have been carried out across the country since the outbreak of the disease in February 2020, with 40,942 done during the day. It also said that 18,588 people were vaccinated against the COVID-19 during the past 24 hours across the country, bringing the total number of doses received to 425,628.

Baghdad [Iraq], May 2 (ANI/Xinhua): The Iraqi Ministry of Health reported on Saturday 5,167 new coronavirus cases, raising the total nationwide number to 1,070,366.
A statement by the ministry also reported 33 new COVID-19 deaths, raising the death toll from the infectious virus to 15,498, while the total recoveries in Iraq climbed by 7,295 to 949,341.
A total of 9,376,388 tests have been carried out across the country since the outbreak of the disease in February 2020, with 38,287 done during the day.
Ryadh Abdul-Amir, head of the Public Health Department in the ministry, told the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) that the citizens turnout for vaccination is low, but it suits the limited quantities of vaccines.
