During the recent Israel-Gaza conflict, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that some of the drones flying over Israel had been sent from Iraq or Syria. Iraqi pro-Iran militias, many of them present in Syria as well, continuously threaten that they can attack Israel from Iraq.
An unmanned aerial surveillance system (UAS, or small drone) struck on May 8 Iraq’s Ain al-Asad Air Base in the western part of the country where US and other coalition forces are stationed, without causing injuries.
Speaking to Al-Monitor, a security source at the air base said the attack actually involved two drones. One was downed; it is unknown what happened to the second drone.

Following remarks from Iraqi President Barham Salih, who admitted on Sunday that Iraq has lost $150 billion since 2003 to corruption, a new international project launched on Monday aims to curb embezzlement and bolster transparency in Iraq’s public sector.
The 15 million-euro ($18.3 million) initiative, led by the United Nations Development Program Iraq in partnership with the European Union Mission in Iraq, was designed to support Iraqi institutions and enable Iraqi civil society to play a more active role in identifying and fighting corruption.
“Combating corruption requires a joint and unified effort from the Iraqi government, state institutions and the Iraqi society,” said the Ambassador of the European Union Mission to Iraq Martin Hutt in a release.

BAGHDAD - Iraq on Sunday reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian cause, while calling for fostering unity among Palestinian parties via dialogue.
Iraqi leaders made the pledges during their meetings with visiting Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki in Baghdad on Sunday, after a ceasefire ended the 11-day fighting between Israel and Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip.
A statement by the media office of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said that al-Kadhimi told al-Maliki that Iraq will not abandon the Palestinian cause, which enjoys popular, political, and official support .
Al-Kadhimi also stressed the importance of holding Palestinian dialogue to unify the Palestinian parties, the statement said, adding that al-Kadhimi pledged to support Palestine through regional and international positions and contacts.
