The International Criminal Court (ICC) has dropped a probe into the alleged torture of Iraqi prisoners by British troops, after accepting that the UK’s investigation was adequate.
Allegations that Iraqi detainees were killed and tortured by the British between 2003 and 2008 had been due to be the basis of a full-scale investigation at the court in The Hague, Netherlands.

(London) The International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor s decision to close a preliminary examination of alleged war crimes by British forces in Iraq is likely to fuel the perception of a double standard in international justice, Human Rights Watch said today. On December 9, 2020, the ICC prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, announced that after a six-year initial inquiry, her office will not pursue a formal investigation into alleged war crimes by United Kingdom nationals in the context of the Iraq conflict and occupation between 2003 and 2008.
