MPs’ panels to discuss situation after US pullout from Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD: The parliamentary panels of the National Assembly and Senate are separately taking up the burning issue of Afghanistan and the impact of the withdrawal of US troops from the neighbouring country on Pakistan and the region.
The National Assembly standing committee on foreign affairs holds an in-camera session on July 8. It will discuss and will be briefed on the assessment of the current situation in Afghanistan; the impact of the US announcement of the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan; the status of the reconciliation offered by ex-ambassador Muhammad Sadiq; and Islamabad’s concerns over the evolving situation in Afghanistan.

IT is rare that the plush hall of the National Assembly echoes with policy talk for hours on end. So it was a welcome sight, according to eyewitnesses, that nearly a hundred top politicians and legislators huddled with the military leadership for nearly eight hours and discussed hard options on Afghanistan.
The briefing by the Director General of the ISI Lt Gen Faiz Hameed started a little after 3pm on Thursday as his boss, Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa looked on. By the time the session, which included Q&A and speeches, ended the clock had already chimed 11pm. RAWALPINDI: Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Ambassador Munir Akram called on Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa at the General Headquarters here on Thursday.
During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, overall regional security situation including the Afghanistan reconciliation process and Kashmir dispute were discussed, said a news release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations.
The army chief appreciated the mission’s role and efforts in the service of Pakistan.

RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa discussed key issues with Chairman of the European Union Military Committee Gen Claudio Graziano on Tuesday, said the Inter-Services Public Relations.
