Army participates in first-of-its-kind cyber exercise March 16

Felicia Jagdatt/Army) WASHINGTON For the first time, Army leaders combined two exercises to test emerging cyber technology needs in a more real-world tactical environment. This year, Cyber Quest an annual demonstration of emerging technology needs at Fort Gordon was conducted in concert with the Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment at Fort Benning. The event is designed to test new concepts and technologies for multidomain battle focused at lower echelons, such as company and below. Army officials explained that combining the two events more closely aligns to the Army and Department of Defense’s push toward multidomain operations.

Army maneuver officials are pushing for additional testing of aerial resupply by autonomous drones which could become a dependable lifeline for delivering ammunition and water to combat units when they need it most.
Soldiers with the service s Experimental Force, or EXFOR, at Fort Benning, Georgia, just completed the Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment (AEWE) 2021, using commercial autonomous quadcopters to fly ammo for the M240 machine gun, M249 squad automatic weapon and M4A1 carbine to units fresh out of gunfights during the force-on-force portion of the exercise.

WASHINGTON: As the Army rebuilds its long-neglected electronic warfare arm, it’s finding simple tools can have a big impact – at the right place and time.
While EW is best known for
disrupting radio and radar, recent wargames at Fort Benning showed tremendous tactical value to simply
detecting hostile transmissions. EW troops following behind the frontline infantry used portable sensors to detect “enemy” units’ transmissions a kilometer or more away, long before regular soldiers could see them.
